Lakes under Threat by the Proposed Mine
Pan Pacific Aggregates have begun the initial phase of having a huge open pit limestone mine within the Caren Range. They have begun road construction, land clearing, drill sampling and some ore extraction with the study area. In the summer of 2005, they were ordered to cease any further exploration until an environmental assessment of the area was conducted. Although they have denied it publicly, Pan Pacific has created new roads through old growth management areas (OGMAs) causing irreversable damage.

This map indicates the lakes in the area which are threatened by the proposed open pit mine.

This map was photographed from PPA's display board during one of their public presentations at the Seaside centre in Sechelt. Aside from the green arrows and text, it is an unaltered map.
